Have a look at this.
Note the chord keypad on the left. That's the same as the main keyboard except the individual characters are selected by chords. That's so you can keep typing while using the mouse.
Kinda funny that we've adopted so much of Engelbart's work, but not this. Anyway I've been thinking of a slightly modified application of the chord pad and am amazed that there's no geek file showing how to build one and read it through the serial port. Compare to the homebrew support for the PowerGlove.
