Sometime last year I was riding my bike to work. That's not too unusual. I was once a bike courier and a bike is still a natural extension of my feet. But I was riding into town on a paved bikepath that follows a pleasant inlet, and just about the time I was passing under a road bridge and noticing how far the traffic was backed up, it hit me: I'm on a purpose-built bikepath running through parkland while commuting to work. My god, this was just a pipe dream a couple of decades ago. It was Utopian. I never really thought anything close to the dream would actually happen. I about fell off the bike.
I've just had another one of those moments.
